Mansur Gavriel inaugurated a newly designed pop-up shop on Wooster St. to debut their Spring Summer 2017 collection during New York Fashion Week. Mansur Gavriel’s SS17 Candy Shop select, purchasable products from the latest collection along with candy and cakes imported from Italy. The space, with a semblance of fresh, lemon sorbet, hosted a floor-to-ceiling, yellow interior. The shelves are dressed with traditional Italian delicacies among the likes of Jordan almonds, biscotti, and marzipan fruit.
The Spring Summer 2017 collection was aesthetically aligned with that of the brand, debuting the signature color ways and classic silhouettes but with a modern alteration. Functionality remains present as Mansur Gavriel introduced several new silhouettes including feminized briefcases. Pointed mules and miniature block heels define the shoe collection. As part of their see-now-buy-now initiative, shoppers can take home the readily available Spring Summer 2017 collection and even include treats of their choice, packed neatly in custom-made Mansur Gavriel boxes.
Alice + Olivia designer, Stacey Bendet allowed the influence from Salman Rushdie’s The Enchantress of Florence and it’s narrative to inform the Fall Winter 2017 collection of the brand. In a testament to today’s societal female empowerment, Bendet explained, “One of the themes running through the book is that a lost princess is creating her own destiny in a man’s world.” Throughout Rushdie’s novel, there are references to Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera, which handed influence to the collection through the manifestation of the printed painting on silk skirts.
“It’s about taking everything you’re seeing and hearing and interpreting it as your own,” the designer defended upon being questioned on the collection’s political statement. Bendet debuted utilitarian styles in jewel tones. Sequined miniskirts alluded to the richness of India’s palaces. Camouflage jackets and uncut denim nodded to militarism. Slogan tees read, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Widely recognized and credited for options, Alice + Olivia's Fall Winter 2017 collection possessed versatility in appealing to the global woman.
