Fendi presented their Fall Winter 2017 Men’s collection in a surprising delivery as one of the most positive collections of the season. With a strong nod towards Eighties and Nineties influenced sportswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi divulged, “I want to be optimistic, need to be. These were simple words, universal words like love, listen, try. Reading this and thinking it is so easy if you follow these universal rules.” With this notion and inspirational nudging from Ernest Hemingway, Fendi sought out to design a collection that did not just show, but rather spoke.
The collection was heavily branded. From “Trust Fendi” slogans to the Fendi logo, to “Fanstastic Fendi,” the fur pieces presented their fair share of brand placement. Primary brights and bold animal prints loudly hinted to a form of pop culture, whilst nylon puffers, trousers and jackets nodded to the ever-growing search for practicality in populism. That being said, amongst the practicality of the collection appeared long coat sleeves blocked in animal printed fur, mixed fur clashing, especially seen with contrasting coat sleeves and collars, and blush pink tones paired back to slate grey, whilst electric tangerine and orange pops accented pieces.
The accessories collection thrived in its delivery of fur logo emblazoned slides, monogrammed envelope clutches, nylon backpacks and boxy leather handbags. Fendi was noticeably stenciled on the back of buzzed heads in striking hues of orange and yellow, further confirming that fashion is currently in the epicenter of a logo revival. The collection produced with an undeniably androgynous tone, was completely versatile in its ability to define itself as a very wearable collection. Through a kaleidoscopic collection, Fendi promised an “optimistic sign for the future.”
