With much anticipation this week, Rihanna did not disappoint. After dropping her new beauty line earlier this week, her ss18 FentyxPuma collection was the highlight of the week. The show opened at the Park Avenue Armory which seemed fitting for what guests were in store for. Amongst glittering pink sand mountains, motocross bikers roared through the set doing 360 tricks and flips of ramps. The star studded crowd which included editors and celebrities was mesmerized and social media went crazy. It was the much needed oomph that NYFW needed.
As the models hit the runway one thing was clear, surfer and sporty beach babe vibes were a major influence for this collection. Models donned swim suits with sports sunglasses, visors and thong sandals for a look that was equally cool as it was sportswear. The looks were perfectly accessorized with bucket hats and nylon bags. As the show continued the second trend of the evening emerged: Motocross. Models edged down the runway in striped moto jackets, leather pants and full on racer suits. Raver like colors and parachute pants easily blended the two super sporty trends and made each sporty separate wearable for day to day looks. Cropped hoddies and windbreakers played a strong role accessorizing almost every look.
Sportswear has become a major player in the fashion industry. The PumaxFenty brand isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It’s in in your face sportswear and that’s refreshing. As the show closes, Rhi makes an appearance with one of the motocross riders sporting a thigh high black, green and white thigh high boot and what’s sure to be one of the most talked about boots of NYFW.
